Again the weather was fine and we split into two groups for our ascent on Fairfield, with one planning to do a longer walk with more climbing. So, having separated on the way up, it was to everbody's surprise, that the faster group were still at the summit when the slower group got there.

The slower group started their descent after Great Rigg whereas the others carried on over to Heron Pike.

So the slower group got back to Grasmere first, and having seen the great queue for drinks at Tweedies bar, decided to move onto the 1769 bar where service was much brisker. The other group eventually turned up with Mark who had gashed his leg on a rock. They needed to raid Alan's first aid kit as it turned out none of them had a bandage with them! [Ed – a salutary reminder for everybody – check your first aid kit has the basics.]

After patching Mark up and after a well deserved drink we returned to the hostel – or in Roger's case to his hotel room.

Dinner this evening was booked into Tweedies Bar which was also Roger's hotel and by pulling a few strings, Roger managed to get us a prime spot in the hotel restaurant, rather than in the rather raucous bar.

Entertainment during the evening involved a rubber glove and a model sheep!

Where do you think we are now, chaps?

Unfortunately a bit of mist spoils the view.

Alexandra seems to get great pleasure from a rubber glove (strange people these Portuguese).

Meanwhile Roger's penchant is more for sheep!
